This Was a Man (Book 7)
Recap
This Was a Man opens with a shot being fired, but who pulled the trigger, and who lives and who dies?
In Whitehall, Giles Barrington discovers the truth about his wife Karin from the Cabinet Secretary. Is she a spy or a pawn in a larger game?
Harry Clifton sets out to write his magnum opus, while his wife Emma completes her ten years as Chairman of the Bristol Royal Infirmary, and receives an unexpected call from Margaret Thatcher offering her a job.
Sebastian Clifton becomes chairman of Farthings Kaufman bank, but only after Hakim Bishara has to resign for personal reasons. Sebastian and Samantha’s talented daughter, Jessica, is expelled from the Slade School of Fine Art, but her aunt Grace comes to her rescue.
Meanwhile, Lady Virginia is about to flee the country to avoid her creditors when the Duchess of Hertford dies, and she sees another opportunity to clear her debts and finally trump the Cliftons and Barringtons.
In a devastating twist, tragedy engulfs the Clifton family when one of them receives a shocking diagnosis that will throw all their lives into turmoil.
This Was a Man is the captivating final installment of the Clifton Chronicles, a series of seven novels that has topped the bestseller lists around the world, and enhanced Jeffrey Archer’s reputation as a master storyteller.
I am guessing Harry might die in this book.. The truth from his past.. About his parents might be revealed.. A glimpse of Harry’s nature in one of the future generation of Clifton’s.. Emma becoming prime minister of England.. I can go on… There is no end to my imagination of how the series could end..
As always love J.A’s work.. Always hungry for more…
Wonderful. I was so glad and happy we did not have wait until 20017!!!!! Thank you.
I thnk harry will write novel abt his family tragedy
Love the Cliftons and the Barrintons waiting for book seven
I think harry,s fother is alive
what makes u think that?
I was rather hoping it would be Giles who saves his girl but seems like that’s not gonna happen. This was a man might be the theme of Harry’s funeral. He might have a disease or something. This is maddening and yet all of this makes the book worthwhile. love the series.
I hated how the book ended , I was really upset with how it was ended.
Not a happy ending for any one. What was the author thinking of.
All that the family went throught to make the compamy and familys work he leaves with such a poor ending. I loe J.A. Books but was so dissapointed on the ending of this book. I can say that of all the books I have read in my life time, This was the one that left me REALLY UPSET. I am hoping that he will revisit the ending and do another book to make a ending that does not upset one. Other wise I have not read one a J.R. Books that I have not likes. So how about getting be back in a happy mood ?
Maybe Karin was not killed by Pengelly and her body slumping to the ground was due to causes other than a bullet.
Thats my big question mark at the moment. It says a shot rang out and her body slumped to the ground, but who fired the shot and who was it at? If she even heard a shot nearby then fainting is not out of the question – also I would have thought that a spy would be likely to use a silencer hence a shot fired by Pengelly would have been more the sound of a spit.
Anyway we shall see what JA has in mind
I think that Pengelly is the one shot, and Karen faints, it is probable that Harry will die in the last book being as the series started with his life as a young boy and following books told is eventful life story. I have loved these books and sorry it ends with the next with No 7
I think Artxhur Clifton’s remains will be found and DNA will prove he is not Harry’s father. Thus Emma and Harry have the same father. Maybe this causes Seb tonhave a medical issue
I have been a J.A fan since I was 15 years old, from the first moment I picked up Kane and Abel up to the moment when Karin’s body slumped to ground. I can see ten different things happening from that moment on wards but I will not even mention them cause I know I will be wrong. J.A will manage the unthinkable as always.
I am such a fan of JA. The Clifton Chronicles are brilliant and I have had many a late night as I cannot put the books down.
I have thought they would either make a great film or perhaps TV drama would be a great replacement for Downton Abbey
Yes I agree, the Clifton Chronicles would make a fabulous TV series.
I’m looking forward for the final book
Thank you Jeffrey…
What a writer you are JA. Such pleasure you give to your readers. The Clifton series has been a wonderful read. Thank you.
hoping u can make a movie then I wouldn’t have to keep going back into the pages to see who is who if I can’t find the next book fight away
The Clifton Chronicles would make an excellent TV drama. Thank you Jeffery for many many hours of fabulous reading, always a page turner and a twist in the tail
I anxiously await the final offering of the Clifton Chronicles. I don’t even want to speculate about what may occur. I have been reading Jeffrey Archer’s works since Kane and Abel and continue to do so. I look forward to his fantastic works and only sad when I have finished reading each book. Kam especially grateful when a new book comes out and that I have a small collection of some of his work. Thank you JA and don’t ever stop.
Like millions of others I am awaiting the final book of the wonderful Clifton chronicles. Whatever I am sure it will be excellent. We cannot always have happy endings. I have enjoyed the characters, the plots, even that nasty witch Virginia Fenwick!!!!!!
The 1st JA book I read was a Prisoner of Birth. I had heard a lot about how good JA was but was hesitant to read any of his stuff purely because of the political JA but my god 3 pages in I was hooked, and have been ever since. I finished that 1st book and I was lost I felt I knew the characters and it was what do I do now.
Looking forward for the seventh and final book of the Clifton Chronicles, I feel very anxius…
Thank you Jeffrey!
